ORSP Grant Application Process Guide

Ready to apply for funding? Click here to submit a Proposal Request Form.

Step 1 – Submit Proposal Request Form to Cayuse

The first step to submitting a funding opportunity application is to submit the Proposal Request Form to Cayuse. Cayuse can be accessed through PipelineMT in the Employee Resources section of the homepage or directly (mtsu.app.cayuse.com) with your SSO login.

Click “Start New Proposal” in the top right corner to begin your Proposal Request Form.

Once you have clicked either option on the “Create New Proposal” pop-up, you will be led to the Proposal Request Form.

Proposal Request Forms should be completed at least 30 days before the submission due date. They are the first step in the application process and are used as a basis for developing sponsored projects, i.e., grants, contracts, etc. Upon completion, a Proposal Request Form will be routed to a pre-award specialist for completion.

To access Proposal or Award records, select the “Products” dropdown and click on “Sponsored Projects”.

Note: All applicants are referred to as a “PI” on Cayuse, including those in Creative Activities and Sponsored Projects.

Step 2 – Connect with an Award Management Specialist

Once your Proposal Request Form has been submitted to Cayuse, an ORSP Award Management Specialist will reach out to you within 1-2 business days to discuss the next steps. You can find your designated Award Specialist by clicking HERE and scrolling down to the Specialist Assignments section.

Step 3 – Submit required application items to Cayuse

Work with your designated Specialist to gather necessary items and upload them to Cayuse. Your Specialist can assist with outlining the Request for Proposal (RFP) and will help you to ensure that all requirements are met prior to submitting to the sponsor. They will also work with you to create your budget.

Step 4 – Submit application for Approval

Once all materials are collected in Cayuse, your Award Specialist will submit the application for approval from the ORSP Director, Department Chair, Lead Applicant, and Co-Applicant(s). It is important to note that the application cannot be submitted to the sponsor until all approvals have been confirmed. We request that applicants submit the Proposal Request Form to Cayuse at least 30 days in advance to ensure that all materials and approvals can be completed before the deadline.

Step 5 – ORSP submits grant application to sponsor

Once all required signatures are received, your ORSP Specialist will submit the application to the sponsor.

Step 6 – Award Management

After receiving an award letter, you will begin working with a Post-Award Management Specialist. Your assigned Post-Award Specialist will organize a kick-off meeting with you to go over details and next steps. You can view the Post-Award Specialist list HERE.
